Anime Season Finale

Three months ago, I set out on a journey to watch as much anime as I possibly could within one anime season. Well the summer anime season has finally come to end end, and with it a lot of good (and bad) have been seen.

Between 8 animes, each lasting about 30 minutes each, (including waiting for them to load because my internet is shit) I spent about 4 hours a week keeping up on all of them. At 12 to 13 episodes each, that makes the total for all animes I watched come to a total of over 48 hours or 2 days. And that doesn’t even count all of the other anime I watched, as well as some episodes that got dropped.

Two animes from last season ended recently as well; K-On!! season 2, and Heroman. Ya ya, haters gonna hate, however if you actually liked K-On!!, it was pretty good. Heroman started out slow, but it actually turned out to be pretty awesome. You can read a review of it here. However, the real focus here is the animes of this season.

Dropped:

jiiiiii...
Nurarihyon no Mago:
I honesty tried watching this, but after like four episodes it was just kind of blah. Ya I can't think of any better description than that.  However, in the few episodes I did watch, I couldn't help but love this character, Yuki-onna (pictured at right).  Probably the only redeeming feature.

Legend of the Legendary Heroes:
I watched the first episode of this, and I really didn't think anything of it.  I can't even say for sure what happened in that one episode.  It never sparked my interest.

Amagami SS:
I did watch this for the first two arcs, and I liked it pretty well. All of the characters were cute and the story was decent (weird fetishes out of the way). However, after the Kaoru (a.k.a. sexhair) arc was finished, I didn't feel like sticking around. I just felt that none of the other girls could match up with her awesome bro-ness.

Good:
Asobi ni Ikuyo (Let's Play):
This anime is basically fanservice. Think alien catgirls. And secret agents. Secret agents with boobs. Did I mention fanservice? Any plot that was present was pretty much covered up by everything else. There were a few parts that I enjoyed though.

High School of the Dead:
This had fanservice coming out the whohaw-- as well as copious amounts of blood and violence (they should probably get that looked at). I've never read the Manga, but I can say that I am disappoint with the boobs per episode ratio of anime compared to the manga was severely low. However, the action was sufficient. It was kind of over hyped from the beginning, but it was definitely a good serious anime.

Mitsudomoe:
This one kind of disturbed me at times, and other times left me laughing my ass off, but overall it kind of made me feel like a dirty pedo. But what am I supposed to do when they pull this type of stuff?
Either way, hnnngggg. I would have liked to see more of the teacher and the ditsy school nurse, but they tended to focus on the triplets. However it seems that a second season is coming later this year(?) which should be worth looking forwards to.

Occult Academy:
A.k.a. Reaction face academy. This was really entertaining, Kind of like a slice-of-life anime with an interesting twist. It even had some interesting character archetypes that you don't see a lot, such as the clumsy "Velma" type (megane, megane), and the androginous tomboy (who I actually found kind of cute). Then of course was the lead Tsundere girl and the submissive male character. Even though the last few episodes made me "WTF" very loudly, there were definitely a lot of scenes that were funny.

Ookami-san to Shichinin no Nakama-tachi(Ookmai-san and her Seven Friends):
This was the first anime to start of the season, and I really enjoyed it. The story was meh at best, as well as being chopped up in between various episodes. However, I couldn't help but love all of the characters. Ookami, or "Big Taiga" as she got deemed, and her neko-neko knuckles were fairly awesome and cute, to say the least. The narrator was hilarious too, but she loved to talk over the other characters a lot, and sometimes I just wanted to yell "STFU!" Reading two sets of subtitles is annoying.

Shukufuko No Campanella:
This was based off of a hentai game, so you can't really expect much in the way of a story, but the characters were good looking. The fan service was pretty nice too. It kind of had the feel of shonen anime, but with mostly female characters which was kind of refreshing.

My Favorites:
Seitokai Yakuindomo:
I could write out something drawn out here about why I loved this so much, but I think this picture sums it up pretty well. It was
I couldn't help but laugh my ass off through every single episode of this, and I even ended up downloading it so I could continue to laugh my ass off. The jokes in this anime are all basically sexual, so if you have a dirty mind like me, you can see them coming (har har har).

Shi Ki:
This had me worried a bit at the beginning, but after watching a few episodes of it, I realized that I had something good on my hands. Around episode six, I finally had this "Wow this is good shit" moment. This is definitely the best serious anime for this season. It's even going for the whole run, so I can't wait for the second half.

And those are my picks. Tl;dr, Seitokai and Shiki are god level. Everything else pales in comparison. Stay tuned for tomorrow when I talk about my favorite characters, couples, scenes, and random screen captures!

I don't watch much anime, but I've been trying to get into it bit by bit. So far, all I've really liked is K-On, but that's fine. K-On makes my life worth living.
